Internships do more harm than good What is an internship? An internship is a work-related learning experience for individuals who wish to develop hands on work experience in a certain occupational field. Most internships are temporary assignments that last approximately three months or up to a year. After reading the essayâ€Å" Take This Internship and Shove it â€Å" by Kamenetz Anya who graduated from Yale University, I agree with her that internships do more harm than good because of the opportunity cost, over- identify and impact on the economy, not teach the intern the skill they need for the future professional life. Unpaid internships will cause an opportunity cost. The opportunity cost of work as an internship is you for go the income that you suppose to make by working at another job to pay for your rent or pay for your student loan. In the essay Kamenetz mention that interns risk opportunity cost. Time spent at an unpaid internship means that students are not earning money to support themselves or pay of f their student loans. Some internships even cost money, so students may incur further debt (585). You will also be losing benefits such as vacation, wages, and health benefits. Some internships require you to work full time. Instead of staying at home and taking care of your child, you have to go work for others for free. Brave New World by Aloud Huxley, the reader is introduced to a very different society than the one that they currently live in. In this seemingly weird society, Huxley introduces Lenin Crowner. Lenin is Aloud Huxley femme fatal character. There are moments of non-conformity in her, but she hides such tendencies, preferring to be an ideal member of the Brave New World. Since she is a true product of the Brave New World, she dislikes traditional human emotions and sees sex as only a â€Å"no strings attached† type thing. It is because of this that she doesn’t understand why John the Savage is not interested in her just because of her body. The common question surrounding Lenin is does she really love John, or is this simply a case of wanting what you can’t have? Throughout the course of the novel, we do see an evolution in Lamina’s character right around the time John is introduced. We see the breaking point of Lenin when she does something at the end of the book that she’s never done. She cried when seeing John isolating himself at the lighthouse thus showing that Lenin was presumably in love with John. Personally, still feel that Lenin was just infatuated of the fact that John is different from the rest of the Brave New World. Overall, we as readers saw a major change in Lamina’s character throughout the course of the novel. These two distinctive branches of social work emerged in the United States from the Charity Organization Societies and from the Settlement House Movement. The services performed by the Charity Organization Societies later became known as casework. The Settlement House Movement activities eventually developed into group work and community organizations.
